Welcome to DontBeAfraidOfFat.com!

DON’T BE AFRAID OF the right kinds of FAT!

  • You – Your cells, Your hormones cannot survive without fat.
  • Your brains are made up of 60-70% fat (*1) – and 50% of that is saturated. (*2)
  • You cannot absorb fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K without fat.

(Contact me at lotta@dontbeafraidoffat.com if you would like me to give a presentation – in your school or elsewhere.)

Uffe Ravnskov, MD, PhD, (http://www.ravnskov.nu/uffe.htm) has for the past 25 years informed us about the real results from the research on heart disease, cholesterol and saturated fat intake. (Scary how real research results are not always the published conclusions.) Ravnskov has shown that no scientific studies support the belief (we all have had) that lowering cholesterol levels and saturated fat intake actually lowers heart disease, and in his book Fat and Cholesterol are GOOD for You he also offers his own view on the causes of heart disease.

“The great tragedy of Science-the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly fact”
Thomas Huxley
(Quote from the website of THINCS – The International Network of Cholesterol, which Ravnskov founded.)

Gary Taubes, an American who has reported on public health issues, nutrition and diet for 20 years, spent five years researching for his book, “Good Calories Bad Calories” covering old and new developments of dietary research on carbohydrates and fat.

The Weston A. Price Foundation (www.westonaprice.org) (with local chapters all over the U.S.) and the “offspring” “Nourishing Our Children” (www.Nourishingourchildren.org) have also spent many years informing the public about the same issues.

WHY I HAVE CREATED THIS WEB-SITE

Because

I want to give you the BASICS on how your body functions, its chemical processes, and what may or may not be good to eat.

Because

Reports are everywhere – on adults and children getting more overweight, obese, diabetic and sick, and

because I CRINGE

  • when I see what children eat in schools.
  • when I see margarine and vegetable oils on school menus.
  • when I see commercials for glucose meters for children – in red, green, pink and blue.
  • when I see health advice telling us to eat non-fat/low-fat foods and soy.

MY OBJECTIVE

TO OPEN YOUR MIND
to the following statements:

  • DON’T BE AFRAID OF FAT - the right kinds:  Coconut oil, Ghee and Butter.
  • FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT – sugar does.
  • SATURATED FAT IS NOT DANGEROUS – but in fact very important for your body.

BUT, BUT HOW ABOUT CHOLESTEROL?
  • CHOLESTEROL IS NOT A TOXIC SUBSTANCE LURKING IN OUR ARTERIES – but vital for every cell in your body. You cannot live one day without it!
And, it does NOT damage arteries – it repairs arteries!
    (*3)
  • SOY HOWEVER IS DANGEROUS – and will disrupt many body functions (*4)

  • TOO MUCH FRUCTOSE IS DANGEROUS – and causes liver damage. (*5).
According to the material I have studied, there really aren’t any studies, which show that saturated fat is dangerous. When it comes to research studies written up/quoted in media, I want you to ask yourself: What might be the basis for the claims made? WHO did the research? WHO PAID for it? WHAT other research results were cited (Science Citation Index-see) supporting the conclusions drawn?
Often research is done to support a story with facts!

(*1) Gary Taubes, “Good Calories Bad Calories”,  p. 30-31: “Our brains, for instance, are 70 percent fat, mostly in the form of a substance known as myelin that insulates nerve cells and, for that matter, all nerve endings in the body. Fat is the primary component of all cell membranes. Changing the proportion of saturated to unsaturated fats in the diet, as proponents of Keys’s hypothesis recommended, might well change the composition of the fats in the cell membranes. This could alter the permeability of cell membranes, which determines how easily they transport, among other things, blood sugar, proteins, hormones, bacteria, viruses, and tumor-causing agents into and out of the cell.”)

(*2) Lierre Keith, The Vegetarian Myth, p.182: “Fat is also preferred by our nervous systems. Without fat, our neurotransmitters literally can’t transmit. Twenty-five percent of the body’s cholesterol is in the brain, the brain that is made up of over 60 percent saturated fat. The brain’s glial cells play a primary role in cognitive function: they provide “a substance that allows…synapses to form, and function. Without this substance your brain would be almost entirely useless.” (Keith, p. 182 taken from Kendrick, Malcolm, The Great Cholesterol Con. p.178) The name of this wonder substance? Cholesterol.”

(*3) Lierre Keith, The Vegetarian Myth, p.184: “Whether the damage is caused by sugar and insulin……or by PUFAs (polyunsaturated fats) and their free radicals, it’s the cholesterol that keeps us from dying…” As Sally Fallon and Mary Enig explain: “…blaming cholesterol for CHD (coronary heart disease) is like blaming the firefighters for the fire.” From Fallon, “The Oiling of America.”)
